Donna J. Hahn, age 86, of Glenwood, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, March 17, 2024. A memorial service celebrating Donna’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22nd, at Grace Pointe Church (formerly Villard United Methodist) in Villard, with Pastor John Praetorius officiating. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Grove Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Donna Jean Thompson, daughter of Clayton C. and Mildred F. (Woodhall) Thompson, was born on May 19, 1937, in Grove Lake Township. She was the second of four children born to the couple. Donna's early years were spent primarily on the family farm near Glenwood, with the exception of a few years when her family lived in Washington. Donna started elementary school in Alderwood Manor, WA, and then attended school in Grove Lake, MN, when they returned to Minnesota. She was a 1955 graduate of Glenwood High School.

On April 23, 1960, Donna's heart was irrevocably joined with that of Lewis Otto Hahn as they married at the Methodist Church in Glenwood, MN. Together, they embarked on a journey that saw them create homes in Richfield, MN, Elk Grove Village and Buffalo Grove, IL, and Burnsville, MN, before returning to Glenwood upon Lew's retirement.

Professionally, Donna's path was as varied as it was fulfilling. Although she and Lew were never blessed with children of their own, their love of children led Donna to operate an in home daycare when they lived in the Twin Cities. She also contributed her talents to S.H. Cress in Colorado Springs, CO, Courtesy Manufacturing in Elk Grove Village, IL, and Northwestern Bell in Glenwood. Yet, when asked about her profession, Donna would humbly respond with a smile, "Professional volunteer!" a testament to her unwavering commitment to serving others.

Donna's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of her passions. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she was actively involved in Stephen Ministries. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her in acts of generosity and kindness. Additionally, Donna volunteered at Central Square and was a cherished member of the local Potpourri Study Club and Reader's Theater, where she shared her love for the arts and literature.

Her creative energy flowed through various avenues: sewing, embroidery, quilting, knitting, and painting, whether it be with delicate watercolors or bold oils and acrylics. Donna also found joy in reading, traveling, singing, photography, and acting with the local Showstoppers group. Each hobby was a reflection of the beauty she saw in the world and her desire to contribute to it.

Donna passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2024, in Glenwood, MN, following months of health issues. Those who knew Donna will remember her as a generous soul, a kind presence, a doting aunt, and a wellspring of creativity. She desired to be remembered as a good and faithful friend and, most importantly, as a faithful follower of Jesus. Donna's life was a reflection of these wishes, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of her spirit.

Donna's is survived by her sister, Marjorie Lang of Glenwood; brothers, Franklin T. (Bev) Thompson of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Douglas E. Thompson of Alexandria; godson, Clayton Thompson of Brookings, S.D. along with cherished nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Bill Sutherland; and close neighbor and friend, Barb Iverson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis in 2010; her nephew, Chris Lang; niece, Christine Thompson Wheeler; her sister’s husband, Ralph Lang; her husband’s brother, Robert (and Bernice) Schmalek; and her husband’s sisters, Shirley Sutherland and Marion (and Stephen) Sonstegard.
